Kdrama Review: She Would Never Know

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Main Genre: Romance

I was excited to watch this kdrama because I’ve heard so many good things about Rowoon and this was my first kdrama with him in it. It was quite entertaining, though, I did have to watch this show twice before I was able to complete it and while watching it for the second time, I was pretty close to quitting again because of the plot.

Synopsis:

The series tells the story of people working on the marketing team of a cosmetics brand, with a focus on the senior/junior relationship of Yoon Song-ah (Won Jin-ah) and Chae Hyun-seung (Rowoon). Substories include Chae Hyun-seung's sister, Chae Ji-Seung a dress maker, dating Lee Jae-Woon, a BM at the cosmetics company and his other sister, Chae Yeon-Seung, relationship with her closeted husband, Kang Woo-Hyun and their young daughter, Kang Ha-Eun.

Review:

Yoon Song-ah is secretly dating her boss, Lee Jae-shin (Lee Hyun-wook), but Chae Hyun-seung caught not only their relationship but also something shocking about their boss. Also, Chase Hyun-seung has a big crush on Yoon Song-ah, who trains Chae Hyun-seung and is his senior. He helps Yoon Song-ah find out the truth and insists she breaks up with him.

Yoon Song-ah started off as really cold towards Chae Hyun-seung, even after he confessed his love to her. Yoon Song-ah is also very serious about her work and prioritizes work as she’s a hard worker. She also didn’t appreciate Chae Hyun-seung’s love until she went through something. She had a great character development in the sense that she learned to really love Chae Hyun-seung and give up good opportunities for him. Though, personally, I don’t know if giving up good opportunities for love is something I agree with. People should learn to balance love and work but giving up a pathway to success because of your emotions really isn’t something I agree with.

Chae Hyun-seung was such a sweet character. He was also quite stubborn and persistent. He never gave up even when Yoon Song-ah insisted she wouldn’t love him back or something along those lines. Even still, he never gave up even when the boss made things even harder for him. I’ve never seen a guy this obsessed with a girl as Chae Hyun-seung was with Yoon Song-ah. Chase Hyun-seung was also a little selfish in this kdrama but he tried to keep himself from being selfish. He was also ridiculously patient which was really sweet.

Yoon Song-ah and Chae Hyun-seung’s relationship was cute. Seeing Yoon Song-ah soften up to Chae Hyun-seung was satisfying to see as Chae Hyun-seung tried so hard. I understood how Yoon Song-ah felt like Chae Hyun-seung was too good for her because of his kind-hearted nature. I especially loved when they were kind of dating but not really as their coworkers were so invested in them and the last few episodes where they were both so invested in each other.

I also want to bring attention to Lee Hyo-joo’s (Lee Joo-bin) character development. Best character development in this whole series. I’m not going to really spoil it as this is best shown throughout the show and I felt so proud of her by the end of the series. Lee Jae-shin, on the other hand, I really disliked but also pitied. No matter what his situation was, what he did in the series was unacceptable and he shouldn’t have done it. I also pitied him for his past and how his father was giving him a hard time.

The pace of the story was a bit on the slower side. I didn’t feel like finishing it in the middle of the series as it wasn’t really keeping my interest but I decided to push myself to finish it and I did like the ending. The ending was satisfying so I would say to not give up in the middle of the series even though you may be losing interest. The storyline itself was kind of basic or not super creative. It was more for showing people dealing with regular troubles that individuals and couples and lovers go through. This did make the show quite real and relatable for people.

Overall, this was an enjoyable kdrama that I would recommend for people who love a lot as this kdrama focuses on this concept and, in general, for people who love sweet romances. And now I see why so many people love Rowoon since I found his acting really good and entertaining.
