You guys will notice as you look through more of my reviews (for both books and kdramas) is I mostly give out four's and five's and the occasional three stars.
Here is why:
- I tend to pick up books and watch kdramas I know I will enjoy as I don't want to waste time reading books and watching series' I won't like.
- I also first break down the pros and cons of the books and kdramas before deciding on how many stars to give it so it's not really based on my emotions as I really love or obsess over books and kdramas I become attached to, which aren't very many.
- I don't want to take off stars from a book or kdrama even if I saw no major problems, or any problems in general, in it just because I didn't become attached to it.
Many people say how they reserve their 5 stars for only life changing, crazy good books. Though I don't agree with that because if I read a book in which I, personally, didn't find any problems with, why should I give it four stars? I tend to read many four star reviews with no complaints about the book and I'm wondering why not just give it all 5 stars? If a book is seriously life changing and nothing like I've read before (which aren't many), I would just emphasize that in my review or maybe even go against the standard by adding an extra star in my review. All this also goes for kdramas, but especially for books.
If I see a book or kdrama with a lot of 3 star reviews, I probably won't pick that book up but I've heard many people say they would recommend to others the thing they rated 3 stars. I wouldn't reccomend my 3 star books or series' unless someone has nothing better to watch or read at the moment.
Here is a general guide to what my ratings mean:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = I enjoyed it; contains very few/minor problems
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = I liked it; some problems with it
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = It was okay; quite some problems with it
⭐️⭐️ = I disliked it; many problems with it
⭐️ = I hated it; did not finish or a lot of problems with it
Sometimes if there are multiple problems with the story but they're minor things I can look over, I won't hold the book against it. If there are major problems, it will affect my ratings way more. Like if a plot was really bad or had multiple plot holes, that would decrease my ratings way more than a plot simply being a bit slow.
Most importantly, everyone has their own ways to rate books and that's no problem at all! The biggest thing to remember is everyone is different, and some may have different opinions from me about a book, or multiple books, which is totally okay.
I hope this helped you guys get a better understanding of how I rate my books!
