Synopsis:
Meredith Fox has been going to Martha's Vineyard for the summer as long as she can remember. But this summer is the first one back since the death of Meredith's sister. It will all be overwhelming, but even more since since the entire extended family will be together for her cousin's big wedding.
Unfortunately, Meredith's longtime boyfriend unexpectedly dumped her two weeks before the wedding, leaving her dateless. Luckily, she has the perfect distraction. Her family has a tradition of playing the ultimate game of Assassin every summer, and this year it will take place during the week of wedding festivities.
But her target just happens to be a very cute groomsman. She's determined to not let herself get distracted, not let herself be lost in another doomed relationship. But as the week progresses, she can't help falling for him, which may cost her not only the game, but also her heart.
Meredith's family's annual game of assassin at Martha's Vineyard during a summer wedding is the perfect chance to honor her sister's legacy, and finally join the world again. But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she's at risk of losing both the game… and her heart.
Review:
Meredith was all around, a great main character! She had character development which was an important part of this book. This includes focusing on her grief of losing her sister, how it affected her, and seeing how she copes with it over time. We can see multiple times how she was bottling in things and acting okay, even though she completely wasn't. I think the book focused on these topics very well and in a way that people can relate to.
Witt was dazzling. He's the type of boy to easily sweep you off your feet with his charm. He was loveable and very caring. He helped Meredith when she came to him and was very open and understanding.
Witt and Meredith had absolutely amazing banter. They would be constantly, subtly flirting with each other in the cutest ways ever. It felt like the playful, teenage sort of love that happens, super cute and wholesome. Their feelings for each other was so obvious to everyone but each other, and their moments together were so much fun to read about.
“Rapunzel, Rapunzel!” I whisper-yelled. “Get your ass down here!”
The plot kept on moving, and didn't bore me at any part too much. Having the game assassin as part of the story definitely kept things interesting as they were plotting and planning things for the game and it definitely got intense at times. This whole setting and atmosphere had me wishing I could attend. I loved the family dynamic and how all the friends got along so well, it was all so sweet and heartwarming.
This was a pretty normal romance read, though it definitely was such a cute, lighthearted summer read while still being dynamic with the themes covered.
“It's one of those special places where you feel like time doesn't exist. Where it will always be summer, where I'll always wake up with you.”
