Kdrama Review: Night Has Come

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Mystery, Thriller

This kdrama was definitely a step out of my comfort zone as watching something with no romance is very rare for me. Though I was really feeling a mystery, like just a fast paced mystery to keep me on my toes. For the most part, this did check my boxes!

Synopsis:

Night Has Come is a mystery high-teen death game where a group of high school students play a deadly real-life game of Mafia at a retreat center. The intense psychological warfare involves cheating, deception, and breathtaking tension.

Review:

High schoolers go for a retreat to a youth camp/center where they get stuck there and forced to play a mafia game where there a couple of mafias who kill at night and players vote out who they think the mafias are. They try to find loopholes and escape, but getting voted out, breaking or unfollowing of the rules leads to death as the person gets possessed prior to committing suicide in very extreme ways.

Our main character Lee Yoon-seo (Lee Jae-in) was such a well rounded character. I liked how even though she was low-key really freaked out by what was happening (which I would be too), she stood up and took initiative when needed. She was also quite smart, looking for the host of the game in order to stop the game at its root. Also crazy brave at times!

Other characters I loved and played a significant role in the drama are Kim Jun-hee (Kim Woo-seok) and Oh Jeong-won (Choi Ye-bin). Jun-hee always has Yoon-seo’s back which was so nice as everyone listened to him since he was class president and he listened to Yoon-seo so it all worked out. Oh Jeong-won…best not to say too much about her. Though, she's a great friend and also always stands up for Yoon-seo which I loved.

And c'mon, this review wouldn't be complete if I don't mention Ko Kyung-jun (Cha Woo-min). I’d be lying if I said the edits of him and Yoon-seo weren't the final push that convinced me to watch this. If he weren't such a jerk I'd like him better, but I can't deny the way his eyes and demeanor soften around Yoon-seo. If you guys haven't seen the edits yet, you absolutely have to!

One thing that I wish I knew prior to watching this was how gorey/bloody it was! Like I did not expect the crazy, extreme ways the students died and not even the way they died but the amount of blood had me cringing. Though, I just skipped/skimmed past those parts which didn't affect my overall understanding of the drama.

The plot was so fast paced. I finished it so quickly and especially the second half of the drama, I could not stop watching. A great kdrama to get you out of a kdrama-slump. The twists were CRAZY! Were there various plot holes? Yes. Did the ending seem kinda far stretched? Also yes. But did I see it coming? NO! I was pretty happy with the path they took for the ending because what they were hinting at in the beginning would've left me real unhappy.

Overall, a crazy thriller mystery for when you're in need for something fast and entertaining.

Edits that convinced me to watch this show (spoiler: this is like not important/big part of the overall drama
