Book Review: Eight Nights of Flirting (Golden Doors #2) by Hannah Reynolds

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Romance

I didn’t know this was the second book in a series. While it definitely can be read as a stand alone, after reading the summary of the first book, it was so cool to recognize the characters from the first book in this one since they had such a sweet connection with Shira. This book itself was all around such a fun and easy to read book.

Synopsis:

A sixteen-year-old girl is on a mission to find the perfect boyfriend this Hanukkah, but love might not go according to plan.

Shira Barbanel has a plan: this Hanukkah, she’s going to get a boyfriend. And she has the perfect candidate in mind—her great-uncle’s assistant, Isaac. He’s reliable, brilliant, and of course, super hot. The only problem? Shira’s an absolute disaster when it comes to flirting.

Enter Tyler Nelson, Shira’s nemesis-slash-former-crush. As much as she hates to admit it, Tyler is the most charming and popular guy she knows. Which means he’s the perfect person to teach her how to win Isaac over.

When Shira and Tyler get snowed in together at Golden Doors, they strike a deal—flirting lessons for Shira in exchange for career connections for Tyler. But as Shira starts to see the sweet, funny boy beneath Tyler’s playboy exterior, she realizes she actually likes hanging out with him. And that wasn’t part of the plan.

Amidst a whirl of snowy adventures, hot chocolate, and candlelight, Shira must learn to trust her heart to discover if the romance she planned is really the one that will make her happiest.

Review:

I really do understand Shira a lot and I enjoyed her character. She wants a boyfriend because she wants a best friend, someone who wants to be with her in the long run. And when she likes someone, she doesn’t fall lightly. She’s completely head over heels, and I know lots of girls can relate to that haha. But, also just as hard is actually bagging a boyfriend. Shira is shy, reserved, and not used to being open, even with friends. Something she slowly conquers by the end of the book. I liked seeing her get closer with her friends, and taking that step to initiate conversations and being upfront with her feelings.

Tyler had me swooning. The way he held himself, I could definitely see why Shira fell for him when she was younger. Though I also completely understand why she decided to hate him because his reaction to her confession would have me feeling the same way. Though, he definitely made up for it in the present.

I liked Shira and Tyler’s dynamic, they both definitely go super well together. Tyler definitely feels like the best friend she wanted because of the way they both get along. Especially once they started knowing each other better and they started getting vulnerable and sharing their insecurities and flaws and while working to solve a mini mystery about Shira’s ancestor. Though, their chemistry was also undeniable so he definitely felt like the perfect boyfriend for her.

Also, just need to say, Issac was soooo unbearable. Why did Shira like him?? He was so bland!

The plot was entertaining and the type that really feels perfect for if you’re snowed in. Tyler giving lessons for flirting to Shira, the mystery behind Shira’s ancestor, the parties, the plays, the anticipation and trying to get Issac, there was always something fun going on. It never leaves you bored. I learned more about Hanukkah through this book which was a nice experience, and even though it doesn’t really go in depth about Jewish history and Hanukkah history, it was still nice to read about something I didn’t generally read about as much.
