Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Mystery

Wow this book was one ride! Every part of this book was intriguing, interesting, and impressive. I didn’t realize that this was part of a series, but it can 100% be read without reading the previous books, though I think I will definitely be reading the other books in this series because I was really impressed with this lawyer and his skills.

Review:

Eddie Flynn really knocked my socks off with the way he noticed little details and different possibilities. The way he worked through and found an alternative ending to a case that seemed like a closed case was so amazing to watch. It seemed like the man who had been originally accused to have murdered two people was truly the killer and I could not see any other way someone else could possibly be the actual murder with the way that all the evidence was pointed straight at the accused man. Eddie was sharp, brave, and unapologetically ready to put himself in danger for true justice. I really respected and admired these qualities which is making me want to pick up this author’s other books featuring Eddie so I can continue seeing him in action. His background as a former con-artist really did come in quite handy throughout the book, especially when he had to be sneaky to survive some life-threatening situations.

“You have to ignore the wreckage and look beyond it for the monster.”

Joshua Kane was the serial killer mastermind. His pov allowed for the book to feel like a thriller book. The way he described murdering his targets and how he felt while doing so sent chills down my spine. I was genuinely impressed with how clean he was with his murders and all the different techniques he used to ensure he got away with his crime every single time. He was also intelligent and quick-minded, making him a good opponent to take on Eddie.

“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”

I was hooked the entire time while reading this book. The mystery was interesting enough to keep me flipping pages and had me thinking about it even when I wasn’t reading the book. I was very invested in wanting to know how the case would be resolved. Throughout the book, revelations would occur adding tension to the story and forcing me to take a minute to wrap my head around how this could’ve happened and how it would change the course of the case. The serial killer being on the jury added even more problems and difficulty for Eddie and I was really doubting more and more as the story progressed whether Eddie would succeed or not. Especially towards the end when twists and turns were being thrown out like nothing and Eddie faced quite the conflict with Kane but Eddie never failed to leave me shocked and impressed.

Some people may hesitate to start this book due to believing the story might be bogged down due to lawyer and court words and details or thinking they might not be able to enjoy the book completely due to not knowing much about law (I was in this category). Let me clear these uncertainties by confirming as a person with 0 knowledge of how court cases work and completely uninterested about law, the book explained the important components we needed to know simply and it wasn’t filled with boring, unnecessary details. The author’s writing style also helped me feel like I was in the court, watching the case play out.

“In a criminal trial, forensic evidence is God.”

Overall, this was an amazing read for those who love murder cases, gripping, and twisty books. I finished this book two days ago but I’m still processing the events that happened at the end of the book as things took such a turn. This is not your basic mystery book and I definitely encourage you to read this one if you’re a mystery/crime fan.
