Book Review: The Obsession
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Mystery
Sub-Genre: Thriller
I was really intrigued to read this book after reading the summary. The concept seemed really interesting: a guy was stalking a girl he started to gain interest in but the girl doesn’t let this slide, she deals with it herself. It’s unlike how most stalker stories tend to go and I was really curious as to how the story would end as I had a couple of ideas. Needless to say, I did not expect the ending and flew through this book.

Synopsis:
A classic sort of love story... except somebody might wind up dead.
Nobody knows Delilah like Logan does. Nobody. He makes sure of it by learning everything he can through her social media and watching her through a hidden camera he has trained on her house. Some might call him a stalker. Logan prefers to be called “romantic.”
But after Logan sees Delilah killing her abusive stepfather, he realizes there’s still more about her to discover. His sweet, perfect Delilah isn’t so perfect after all.
Delilah knows she should feel guilty, but all she feels is free. She’s so over the men in her life controlling her. Except Logan saw what she did, and he won’t let her forget it.
Delilah is done being the victim. And she refuses to be a character in Logan’s twisted fantasy. If Logan won’t let her go… she’ll make him.
Review:
Delilah turned out to not be anything like she appeared to be. She was sneaky, cunning, and knew how to survive in this world filled with messed up people. Though, she wasn’t in the right with her actions. The situations she was in definitely helped seem like her actions were justified, but they were just as crazy as Logan’s.
Logan’s character really impressed me. Not the fact that he was a crazy, delusional stalker who was obsessive and controlling, but more the fact he really convinced himself he was doing this because he loved Delilah. This story without Logan’s perspective would’ve been incomplete. It’s really interesting to read Logan's thoughts and what led him to do the things he did, even chilling at some points. I don’t think society addresses this enough, but all stalkers aren’t just creeps. Some actually have some underlying issues. Logan was respectful enough, but could snap as well, all while completely believing he was doing everything for Delilah.
“She wants me. She wouldn't slap just anyone's arm.”
The plot was fast paced and I got hooked right from the beginning. This could definitely be read in one sitting as it really makes the reader wonder how Delilah's and Logan’s relationship unravel. Especially as Logan progressively gets more involved in Delilah’s life. Even though the plot never bored me, I felt like the plot was really simple and surface level. I would’ve enjoyed some more depth and layers in the plot. Things that would be uncovered to lead to more ideas and possibilities. I knew how the overall plot would progress, it was just how it would all end which kept me reading. The ending was unexpected, not super crazy though as I do believe it could be predicted. It just wasn’t something that crossed my mind. I do think the story ended too abruptly. A little bit more of what happened after the ending event would’ve been nicer as the event could really sink in and things could end a bit smoother.
“She was always baking for me, surely that meant she loved me. Nobody bakes for people they're not in love with.”
Overall, this was a good fast paced thriller to read if you want something quick and easy to read. It could help in a reading slump because of the simplicity of the story and how intriguing it was. Definitely an interesting read due to the stalker’s point of view being involved and a not so common ending to a common concept.
